When Year Six went to Porthcawl on their Geography field trip, I was in Mr Jones's group.
We went to look at a contrasting place to our village. Porthcawl is a totally different area to Porth because Porth is a valley village and Porthcawl is a seaside town. Mr. Jones had prepared a booklet for us to take around Porthcawl to gather information for our project. The first visiting place we went to was the Fair. We checked the area for pollution, the noise level, safety and weather. Then we went to the beach. We undertook the same survey there as we did in the fair, but we also looked at the pollution that was spread along the beach and how the council had placed blue dustbins so that people could put their litter in them. From the rubbish on the beach these bins weren't being used at all.
After our packed lunch, we walked up to the town to ask visitors the questionnaires about Porthcawl.
We made a list of all the shops in the main shopping area. This street has been closed to traffic so that the shoppers don't have to dodge the traffic when they cross the road. It was very good to see that some old people who were having difficulty walking were able to ride on scooters to do their shopping.
The trip was very good, especially interviewing people from Porthcawl and people from around other parts of Great Britain. I interviewed a woman from Mansfield. I asked her why did she choose Porthcawl for her holiday. She informed " I chose Porthcawl for my holiday because it is a very nice place to come and visit."
