On Thursday 27th May, Porth Junior school pupils and teachers held a memorial service for Miss Hartnell, teacher of Year Three. Among the congregation were many of the childrens parents and grandparents, who were also taught by Miss Hartnell, were there to pay their respects to the teacher. Every man, woman and child in the church thought Miss Hartnell was a teacher in a million and this was reflected in the readings read and the hyms sung so beautifully in the service. The service went very well and much money was raised that went towards the Macmillan Nurses. Everyone thought the service was a big success and I think everyone was right.
Miss Hartnell would be proud of our efforts at the service.

Ballad of Miss Hartnell
In her classroom sits a teacher
Marking Maths books on the floor.
Up and down caretaker paces,
Rattling keys outside the door.
Downstairs comes another teacher,
Full of tales of woe and doom,
Trudging slowly down the hallway,
Enters in Miss Hartnell's room.
"All day now have I been trying
Lots of knowledge to impart."
"Not your fault if they're all wit-wat,
Can't remember off by heart.
Calm down, have a jelly baby,
Think about your blood pressure-
Have a black one, I don't like them
Just as well the kids aren't here!
In the days of rack-a- pudding,
When I taught their Mums and Dad
Seems to me they knew their tables,
Teaching didn't seem so bad!
Still I've been to bed since then,
So pr'haps it's really not so hard!
Tomorrow is another day
And I'm on duty in the yard!"

As you all know Miss Hartnell's sister sent a letter saying how wonderful she thought the service was performed. She also said how proud she felt that WE of Porth Juniors School dedicated a memorial service to Miss Hartnell, a teacher who will never be forgotten. The tree, on the green, will be a symbol of Miss Hartnell forever.
