A Spooky Tale

"Mum! Dad! Hurry up!
Janice is expecting me at 7.00 and it's 10 to 7 already and we're not even in the car ready to go yet, so come on. Mam and Dad were going to a Halloween party with Janice's parents, Mr and Mrs Macdonald. They were from Scotland. While they were having all the fun in the world, I was to go to around to Janice's house, so we wouldn't both be alone. They did this every year, which wasn't fair. We were the ones who should be out trick or treating, collecting money and sweets. "It's not fair!" I thought. "Hooray! we're at Janice's house at last!" I said in relief. "Now you can go and leave everything to us. Now go! We know where everything is." So out they went. We sat watching TV and eating popcorn and dips. Then suddenly... 'Trip!' The lights had gone out. Janice screamed as loud as shecould. "Calm down. It's only the trip switch. Now where is your trip switch box?" I said calmly. "Let's look for it!" As the TV and music had gone of too, there was total silence and it was pitch black like space and like the night sky with only a tiny spot of light creeping in behind the curtains.
"Ah Beth!" said Janice in a little worried voice, "I don't know where the trip switch is."
" You what?"I felt like shouting but there was no point.
"Where is your torch?" I said sharply.
"On the table," Janice said, sounding very scared.
"Now, come on."
We went to the door. Behind it was nothing, so we went upstairs.
"It could be in the attic!" I shouted.
"I'm not going up there!" Janice whispered.
"Well stay down here on your own then," I retorted. So we went up into the attic. It was even darker because there was no window. We lifted the torch along the wall, but suddenly...
the battery went dead! We felt our way towards the wall, but as we did, so it seemed to get longer and longer. At last, we managed to

find our way downstairs. As we walked slowly and steadily into the kitchen, on our shoulders came slimy, cold hands. We were frozen with fear and we SCREAMED!!! We turned around and jumped with horror. There were two, two-headed green, slimy, disgusting monsters. As we clung to each other, shaking with weak with fear the light came back on. It was Mr Macdonald and my Dad in their Halloween costumes, come to check if we were alright.
"What happened to you two, you look like you're in a terrible state, what happened?"
"Dad, just don't ask!"
